CEOs and MDs

Businesses that want to innovate and work more efficiently need to be data driven. Having a robust data strategy will enable a business to make decisions based on data insight and not just intuition. You know where you want to be as an organisation but there are some challenges that you face with your data and the business intelligence reporting from it.

Your staff are frustrated

You want your expensive analysts focusing on their reports and predictive models. Instead they are dealing with poor data quality and disparate data sources. A data analyst may not be best placed to create a business-wide BI strategy as it would span across teams. This is where the management team can really help highlight the importance of data to the business. This will mean that data quality becomes a management Key Performance Indicators (KPI) and frees up the analyst to focus on customer data analytics.

Reports take too long

This can be a frustration for the management team. If business intelligence core reporting is not easily available it is hard to understand the impact of action taken on key metrics and targets. High level KPI reporting needs to be understood by people with different levels of understanding of data measures so the design of the dashboards and reports needs to be thought about in the data or BI strategy. The core data sources need to be reliable and the reports need to be easily repeatable so that trends over time can be accurately measured.

You don't have the right tools

You might be put off contemplating how much time and money it will take you to research the right tools and to employ the right people. But often changes are not in the tools that you are using but the data model that sits behind those tools. A properly thought out data model will map out any repeated effort and highlight where laborious manual interventions could be automated. Often, if new platforms or tools are needed, they are cost neutral in terms of the resulting savings in resource time.

You need to keep up

If your business involves a lot of customer contact then the picture of your data and the insight from that data will be constantly evolving. Customers expect businesses to have an integrated system of their interactions with the company. If the customer interaction is not ‘frictionless’ then it can impact on core targets such as new or renewing sales.

Ensure your data is viewed as a business asset
