Single Customer View Project

Legacy system architecture meant that business teams within the retailer were unable to carry out deep dive analysis. It was not possible to identify customers against all the brand touch points. Monsoon Accessorize had a vision for ‘Data and analytics available, any time anywhere, seen through the eyes of the customer. Consistent positive and frictionless customer experience across ALL channels and ALL mobile devices.’

The Project

We needed to create a platform that would enable a seamless customer experience across all channels. The solution would need to provide operational efficiency de-risk and lower IT support costs by providing more modern technology. We migrated the Enterprise Data Warehouse (EDW) from Oracle to Exasol. We replaced all legacy ETL with Talend/SQL.

Talend Data Services Platform for ETL and Exasol Enterprise Cluster as the analytics data warehouse.

The Outcome

The key overall result is that now the business has trust in the technology team. Stress levels in the team have been reduced. Business critical reports that took 18 hours to run now perform in minutes.

Millions of customer records, billions of comparisons to de-dupe and merge customer records based on fuzzy logic all in reduced run-times – often less than 1 minute. With a single customer view the Monsoon Accessorize BI team can answer questions like yearly and lifetime value of customers subscribed to email versus customers not subscribed.

By providing a more accurate view of daily performance business decisions can be made earlier. Existing BI tools became more efficient and so the time to insight was improved significantly. Now additional feeds can be added into the EDW and more advanced analytic and machine learning methods can be employed to cut down on fraud, to model pricing optimisation and improve customer segmentation.

By working closely with a trusted, strategic partner that had the expertise we needed to access, the Single Customer View project with KETL ran seamlessly. It really was one of the best projects I’ve worked on during my career.

The Monsoon story began with one man and his vision; to bring vibrant, colourful, hand-crafted, artisan clothes from faraway places to the markets of London.
